Brexit and Northern Ireland Updat ...

We are notifying recent changes that have been released for shipping to Northern.

In light of the recent trade agreement goods will now be tariff free, so no duty payments will be involved. However, goods will require a commercial invoice to transit through customs due to Northern Ireland still falling under EU customs regulations (this is for safety and security reasons).

Most of you will be now be familiar with an ‘EORI’ VAT number. You now require this in place for any shipping activity of non-document consignments outside the UK.

In relation to Northern Ireland HMRC have recently released a requirement where a new ‘XI’ EORI number is required for shipping to Northern Ireland only.

Your current EORI number will be accepted for the next 3-month period but we recommend you register here for an XI EORI Number directly on the HMRC website –  https://www.gov.uk/eori and look for the section “if you move goods to or from Northern Ireland”

As with all customs-controlled destinations, there are restrictions on what can and cannot be imported. Although many of these are aimed at bulk volumes and may have exceptions for small quantities e.g. Alcohol, it is important to be aware of them. A very comprehensive list can be found at Moving goods into, out of, or through Northern Ireland from 1 January 2021 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Please note these are not the same as the Dangerous Goods or Limited Quantity restrictions which still apply in full.

If you have any questions, please let us know?

Happy New Year and stay safe!

Best Regards

Richard Mansell
